What, courage man! what though care killed a cat, thou hast mettle enough in thee to kill care.
William Shakespeare – “Much Ado About Nothing”
Actually Will got it wrong …… “It’s Curiosity That Killed The Webmaster!”
For those of us that are a bit more technically geeky …… “It’s Curiosity That Went To Mars!” However ……
During the course of designing your site, there is always a desire that arises to push the edge of the envelope, and provide a design for our customers, or one’s self, that is uniquely different from everything and everybody else. This is good! Web Design, and our own learning, would not progress very far if we didn’t take chances. However, if there were ever an area in which to check this desire, Web Design would be it!
The problem here is not the idea that presents itself to you on how to design differently, rather it’s the ton of information and code that you will invariably have to sort through, ( most of which will not work for you ) and the constant tinkering to get the damn thing to work!
Unfortunately, Web Design is time intense! What’s worse, it seems the simpler the design the more labor intensive it can become.
You will always have a challenge or two when you design your Website or Blog, and to change an item or two is not a deal breaker; never-the-less, over-thinking the design, with never-ending edits and design changes, can slowly drive you into the deeper waters of insanity.
When designing, move through your concept quickly and determine the cost of work and edits. If you desire to move forward with your work, go ahead and put the site together and launch. Then come back and look at further edits and cool things to add. Never, never, never try to do edits to a design on the fly, that’s where the trouble starts. Schedule your work when you have at least 4 hours, ( and that may not be enough ) six to eight would be better, that way when you finish early you can call it a day and watch Game 7 of the 1919 World Series on the MLB Channel …… hey it beats watching the overpaid talking heads that bring you their spin on the Post Presidential Election Coverage.
