The Challenge Of Managing WordPress As A CMS

When designing a Blog or Website, you will no doubt need to decide on a CMS ( Content Management System ). Most will choose WordPress. There are many others of course, however, WordPress seems to be the going favorite for most.

WordPress is fun! WordPress is soooo cool! WordPress is really easy to use for the most part, and is an enjoyable challenge to learn. However, when you have to work on the back-end of WordPress …… look-out!!!

I’ve seen some intense software and some really challenging php scripts in my day, but WordPress is a killer! I spend a good deal of time styling WordPress to dazzle the clients and the wp-admin.css file is one line of code with nearly 110,000 columns …… oh joy! I’d like to say that it’s a work of beauty, rather, it’s a nightmare, and a mess; it works, but man someone needs to clean up after their work in the sandbox.

This type of CSS coding is referred to as a “single-line statement CSS”. Code readability and manageability goes out the door with this type of style, so I’m not really sure why the WordPress development crew practices this type of coding.

Depending on the size of your company and your intended end-user, you will have to make the decision on who or whom to delegate the task of management of your Website. For a small company a person or two can effectively manage. For a large company you will have to face the fact that no matter the ease of use with WordPress, you will have to have a person or two “FULL TIME” to manage what will clearly been seen as a corporate asset.

You may have great fun writing and posting your keen insights to your site on the weekends, but make no mistake; WordPress can be a time consuming monster that will quickly turn into a management nightmare if not given the proper respect that this Software will eventually demand of all companies.
