What a title for a post huh? I guess I could go on about the costs to designing ones Website or Blog, however, I thought I would kinda skim the issue to give my readers a rough sense of the present market.
If you kick around here at Jeffrey-Morgan.com you will find a starter Blog system for about $400.00. This is a quick design that gets you up and running fast. Looking at more needs and the price can and will go up quickly.
I can’t help but reflect back on a conversation with some good folks in the business not too long ago who mentioned that modern web design is for the rich or at least the well-healed. I just recently went through a bout with a client who desired a site for $1000.00. I sent an E-Mail with a $3000.00 dollar bid; He in returned sent me back a one word response “Declined”.
I’ve been watching for the past several months and he still has no new site up and running outside of his old clunker.
For the life of me I just can’t seem to make the custom thing work for less than $3000.00 to $5000.00. I’ve got a project that I’m looking at now that will run about $15,000. I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to pitch this particular project. And I’m feeling the heat of the extreme here. However, I’ve just come from looking at projects that run anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 for a freakin’ website.
The good news is that most domestic services run about $3000.00 to $5000.00 to get you started. You can go overseas and get an even better price if you can make your needs and intentions clear with whomever you are attempting to communicate with. The real problem here ( as is the problem with my $15,000 site ) is not the cost of building, but rather, the cost of maintaining. These sites don’t take care of themselves, and you should really avoid pushing the duties off on your host.
It’s not really that uncommon to have a site run to $50,000.00 or higher a year to maintain. The client that I mention above can look forward to $100,000.00 a year. I’ve seen some E-Commerce sites that have had some inventory lists, but his is really intense …… who’s going to take care of all that …… along with the “several” Blogs and multiple sites integrated within the one so as not to concern his competitors that he does service for!!!
I’m scared to send him the E-Mail.
