Beyond WordPress
I’ve got bookmarks coming out of my ears …… I know join the club of the rest of us! I love that line that Frank Kern uses about bookmarks being so 1990′s. With Online information being so fluid and so easily obtainable by keyword through Google …… who needs bookmarks?
However, I happened onto one of my bookmarks for the forum software “V-Bulletin” and decided to check it out as I hadn’t visited for a couple of years. I was really interested in looking at the different themes that are developed for the software. While looking around I noticed that along with an ever-increasing price, that they are really doing some very cool things with their software.
Of great interest to me is the fact that V-Bulletin continues to make great strides with the development of their “4.0 Publishing Suite“. A CMS built for Communities; this latest version changes everything.
This software is so dynamic; I could go on all day about the really cool features. I think the best way to describe it is “WordPress On Steroids”. I’m serious; if WordPress isn’t careful these CMS “creepers” are going to knock WordPress of the top of the pile.
When viewed carefully from all angles V-Bulletin smokes WordPress right off your screen. OK, let me understand this …… instead of “mostly” mindless back-link comments to your Blog, your readers now have the option of constructing a Blog within your Blog. Oh man …… how cool is that??? Well that kinda takes care of the comment spam! However, the forum spam might be another matter ……..
WordPress is not as good a Blog software as it is a marketing platform. This is not through design by WordPress; rather an evolution of all the theme designers. Whether of not WordPress evolves beyond this point is anyone’s guess.
I’m not only interested in the marketing platforms; I’m interested in the pure Blogging platforms as well. And with V-Bulletin, as well as other forum softwares, this is becoming an increasing focus of their designs. You can take a single idea and run like the wind for days without end. All the while, making it easy to work with for the readers.
For myself, there is something beautiful and pure about the sheer power of a Blogging platform whose goal is nothing more than to provide huge blocks of quality information. Of course, it’s all in how one utilizes that power. As for myself …… in a word ……ZOOM!
