Doing The Best You Can With What You’ve Got

Doing The Best You Can With What You’ve Got

It’s not like I’m on high with the keyboard looking down on all the mere mortals and pounding out content for the benefit of all; I’m actually out there hustling like everyone else, stopping occasionally to gather my thoughts. Here’s one: I wish I had never heard of the grid system!

I’m in the process of learning as much as I can about frameworks, after having been exposed to the gassly “child theme”, “parent theme” thing. I’m not exactly sure of this wisdom, and if you would like to feel the pain, carefully examine this site.

The problem with “child / parent” WordPress themes, is that once released, it’s time to move on to something entirely new to keep pace with tech, thereby rendering the child …… parent-less! Or maybe it’s the other way around, as very few of the things are ever updated.

When I started out actually doing Online stuff back in 1907, I knew that there would be advances in tech, however, I really had no concept that things would be moving so profoundly.

Webdesign now is simply breathtaking! Even WordPress theme designs are absolutely killer. Only problem is no one and I do mean no one is on the same page. When you have a coding issue that you consult “Father Google” about, look forward to receiving hundreds of different answers. Only problem with that, is that most of the solutions will work, depending on a slew of other issues that you need to address first.

Worse yet, looking at some of these answers, you would swear they were written back in 1907. I know this, you probably know this too, but, how about the new guys on the block. Looks like “Father Google” needs a new algorithm.

And the browsers? Well, they aren’t going to sweat it.  That’s what keeps me working with “<center>Center Anything You Want</center>”,  even though it was “deprecated” back in 1912.

The browsers are doing their own thing; not willing to fall inline with the rest of us mutts making sure we do all according to W3C.

Looking good to our peers is important of course, but not to the exclusion of one’s sanity.

The moral to this post: Just do the best you can with what you’ve got and don’t sweat it, as it will probably all change tomorrow anyway. You, or no one else for that matter, will ever be able to “get it right”!
