Recently I was talking to a client that I had noticed was having site problems. During the course of our conversation, I offered to correct his issues and was told that this would not be necessary as he was in the process of building an entirely different site. He explained to me that he had just purchased ( for lack of a libelous title ) “The Website Builders Bible” which was about 9000 pages long.
Well, whatever he was looking for, I was at least assured that it would be within his new book …… if he knew what he was looking for …… if he had the time to filter through all of the static of such a large volume …… if he even understood what it was that he was reading and if he had the skills to employ it. Back to basics ………
I told him that he need to let me deal with the immediate issues at hand and at least get the site back up and running. He finally agreed to this and the work took me about 30 minutes to complete.
My next move was to in some way determine how I might be able to save my client from himself. After much effort I was able to convince him that it would be much better to have me build his new site instead of him trying to use the “learn as you go” approach to designing his new Online presence.
As the project progressed, and the depth of complexity was slowly revealed, I couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that there was no way in hell he was ever going to be able to do this work on his own …… what was he thinking?
Building your own Website is a really cool idea, however, you should at the very least use some common sense and use some sort of a “CMS” ( Content Management System ), especially if you are just starting out, that is what they are there for, to make life easier for you.
One Word …… WORDPRESS!
